Rodney Barbour to Dedicate new Rodgers/Ruffatti Organ in Salisbury, NC

Rodney Barbour will play the dedication concert on the new custom three manual Rodgers organ with 11 ranks of new Ruffatti pipes and MIDI at First UCC in Salisbury, NC.  The church is located at:

Rodney L. Barbour, native of Huntington, West Virginia, is an accomplished performer on low brass and keyboard instruments.  He holds the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education and Organ Performance from Marshall University and the Master of Music Degree in Organ Performance from the University of Cincinnati.  Additional studies include: the completion of all Doctoral course work and recitals for a doctoral degree in  organ performance from the University of Cincinnati; studies in worship, organ performance and children’s music at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; and study at the Creative Education Foundation at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Rodney Barbour’s performance career has taken many directions.  From early performances in dance bands, the Holiday on Ice Orchestra and the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus Band, Rodney developed as a featured entertainer for 10 years on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ (4 manual, 33 rank) at the Springdale Music Palace in Cincinnati.  Rodney held the positions of Official Organist of the Cincinnati Reds at Riverfront Stadium from 1987-1998 and Organist for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks AHL Hockey Team from 1997-2000.  As a worship leader, Rodney has directed adult and children’s vocal choirs, handbells and instrumental ensembles, written liturgy for worship to performing solo organ concerts, hymn festivals and accompanied choral and oratorio performances.  Professionally, Rodney has served as Dean of the Cincinnati Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.  In the Music Industry, Rodney Barbour held the position of Manager of Dealer Support Services for Church Organ Systems/Baldwin Piano and Organ Company 1993-1996 and Regional Sales Manager for Rodgers Instruments 1996-1998.  As a writer, Rodney has articles published in Church Music Digest, Music Revelation and Church Business.

Recent teaching appearances at Major Conferences include:  National Association Music Merchants, Los Angeles, Ca.;  Texas Music Teachers Association, Austin, Texas;   Texas United Methodist Choir Camp, Palestine, Texas;  American Guild of Organists National Convention, Seattle, WA 2000, and AGO Regional Conventions in Houston, Texas and Eugene, Oregon, 2001;  Southern Baptist Music Leadership Weeks at Ridgecrest ,NC and Glorieta, NM. 1999-2002; Texas Baptist Church MusiConference, Baylor University, Waco, Texas;  National Pastoral Musicians Convocation, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Texas Baptist West Regional Keyboard Conference. February 2002, MusiCalifornia April 2002; New Orleans Baptist MusiConference April 2002.  Workshops for individual AGO Chapters in 2001-2002 include Savannah, Georgia; River Valley, Iowa; Dayton, Ohio; Portland, Oregon; Los Angeles, California, Wichita, Kansas. 

Solo concerts and hymn festivals performed  2001-2002 include events in these states:  Alaska, California, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. 

Current activities of Rodney Barbour include:  Educator and consultant in the field of church music.  Rodney’s most recent project is  working with LifeWay Publishing on a project to add MIDI Orchestration to new Organ Releases with a companion “listening” CD for these collections.  A recent CD release recorded on a blended MIDI/traditional Rodgers Organ---“Songs of Life—Sounds of Faith” is enjoying critical acclaim.
